Spring Home Maintenance Reminders

Spring Home Maintenance Reminders

As Spring approaches, you can take a few key steps to ensure your home serves you well through the coming months and is prepped and ready for the summer season. Please take time to check these items in and around your home and attend to any that need maintenance.

Interior Checklist

Check & test smoke alarms

With the change of every season, you will want to check your smoke detectors to make sure they are working properly. Check and replace batteries as needed.

Change and clean air filter, furnace, and air exchanger

Furnaces should be serviced at least once a year to clear any buildup and to keep them running efficiently. Your furnace filter traps pollen and dust and by replacing it with a fresh filter regularly(we suggest every three months) your furnace will function more efficiently.

Operate air conditioning system

It’s a good idea to test your air conditioning to make sure it's working properly in the Spring, that way if service is needed it is more conveniently arranged before the busiest part of the season, summer.

Make sure the air conditioner compressor is level and clean of debris

Check the water heater for sediment on the bottom.

Check with your manufacturer’s specs on how to do this properly

Inspect all baths and showers grout

Clean the windows themselves and then additionally clean out tracks and lubricate the slides of your windows and patio screens. Install window screens you removed for the winter, as you prepare for the warmer Spring / Summer weather.

Make sure gutters are clean and downspouts are connected

Avoid mold and pests by cleaning out any debris from your gutters that may have accumulated over the winter.

Test ground faults

Turn on all exterior faucets

Once the weather is consistently over 32℉ you can turn your exterior faucets back on.
